Use an AI assistant with Managed Nextcloud and Managed Odoo

By Noiz / 19th October 2026 | 5 min

If you use Managed Nextcloud or Managed Odoo from Noiz, an AI assistant can work with your files or your business data through each application's own API, with a credential made for it alone. This guide shows the safe pattern for both: a dedicated user or app password, the least access that does the job, read-only first, and how to withdraw it. For Odoo it hands over to our detailed Odoo guide; for Nextcloud it covers the steps here.

Official Documentation Reference

Before you start

  • A Managed Nextcloud account or a Managed Odoo instance from Noiz. Neither application runs on Legacy or Premium shared hosting; Managed Odoo runs on a Noiz Cloud or dedicated server, and Managed Nextcloud is an account on the Nextcloud service we run.
  • Claude Desktop or Claude Code, or another AI client that supports connectors (MCP), signed in to a plan whose data terms suit your business data.
  • For Odoo, administrator access to your instance, so that you can create a user.

The pattern for both applications

  1. A credential of its own. Never your own password. In Nextcloud, an app password; in Odoo, a dedicated user with its own API key.
  2. Least access. The assistant can do whatever its credential can do. In Odoo, give the user only the apps and access level it needs. In Nextcloud, the app password has your account's access, so be deliberate about what you ask the assistant to touch.
  3. Read first. Start with questions, not changes. Turn on writing only when you have a concrete need.
  4. Withdraw it when you are done. Revoke the app password or the API key.

Nextcloud: create an app password for the assistant

  1. Sign in to your Nextcloud in a web browser.
  2. Open your avatar menu, choose Personal settings, then Security.
  3. Under Devices & sessions, enter an App name that says which tool it is for, for example Claude Desktop, office laptop.
  4. Click Create new app password.
  5. Copy the user name and password into your password manager. Nextcloud shows the password once.

If you use two-factor authentication on Nextcloud, an app password is the only way to connect any app, including an assistant's connector.

Nextcloud: connect a connector

Open-source Nextcloud connectors, such as nextcloud-mcp-server, run on your computer and sign in with your user name and app password. Noiz does not maintain them; read the project's page, check that it is maintained, and start with its read-only options if it has them.

The details you need are your Nextcloud address, your user name and the app password. For a connector that works with files by WebDAV, the address has the form https://your-nextcloud-address/remote.php/dav/files/USERNAME/, shown in Nextcloud's Files settings under WebDAV.

Good first requests: "List the folders in my Nextcloud and how many files each holds." "Find the most recent quote in the Quotes folder and summarise it." Then, if you need it, "Save this summary as a new file in the Reports folder."

Nextcloud: revoke the app password

In Personal settings > Security > Devices & sessions, open the menu next to the app password and choose Revoke. The connector stops working at once.

Odoo: follow the Odoo guide

Our guide How to connect an AI assistant to Odoo using the API covers the whole procedure: a dedicated user with the least access, an API key, a connector for Claude, and calls to the API from your own scripts. On Managed Odoo, three points matter most:

  • You manage users and access rights. Creating the assistant's user and setting its access are yours to do as administrator; we run the server and the application.
  • API keys expire. Odoo keys last at most three months. Note the date and make a new key before it runs out.
  • Writes off until needed. The connector in the guide refuses changes by default. Keep it that way for reporting, and turn writing on only for a defined task.

What the assistant does not get

A Nextcloud app password gives the assistant your Nextcloud account, not your email, your hosting or your Noiz console. An Odoo API key gives it only what its Odoo user may do. Neither reaches the server the application runs on; that stays with Noiz.

Troubleshooting

  • The Nextcloud connector says the login failed. Use the app password, not your normal password, and the user name shown in your Nextcloud profile. If two-factor authentication is on, only app passwords work.
  • The Nextcloud connector cannot find any files. The WebDAV address is wrong. Copy it from Files settings > WebDAV.
  • The Odoo assistant suddenly stops working. The API key has expired. Create a new one for the same user.
  • The Odoo assistant sees records it should not. Its user has too much access. Lower the user's access rights; the assistant can never see more than its user.
  • Something changed that you did not ask for. Revoke the app password or API key, and open a ticket if you need data restored from our backups.

Managed applications at Noiz

Managed Nextcloud and Managed Odoo are run, updated and backed up by Noiz, so you can connect an assistant to the application without looking after the server underneath. Ask us which fits your team.
