For added resilience, you can store backups on your own remote server instead of keeping them only on the hosting server. Plesk provides built-in support for FTP and FTPS connections, making it easy to configure off-site backup storage. This guide shows you how to set up FTP(S) storage for your subscription backups.
Accessing FTP(S) storage settings
- Log in to Plesk.
- Go to Websites & Domains and open Backup & Restore.
- In the Backup Manager, click Remote Storage Settings.
- Select Use FTP(S) storage.
Configuring FTP(S) storage
Fill in the fields as follows:
- FTP server hostname or IP * – enter the hostname or IP of your own remote FTP server.
- Directory for backup files storage – specify the path on the remote server where backups will be stored. For example:
/myfolder/mybackups/. - FTP username * – the login username for the FTP account on your remote server.
- FTP password – the password for that FTP account.
- Use passive mode – check this box if your FTP server requires passive FTP connections.
- Use FTPS – check this box if your server supports FTP over TLS for encrypted transfers.
Fields marked with * are required. After entering your details, click OK to save the configuration. Plesk will test the connection to verify that the credentials are valid.
Creating and scheduling backups to remote storage
- In the Backup Manager, click Back Up or Schedule.
- In the Store in section, select FTP storage instead of server storage.
- Complete the remaining backup settings as needed.
- Click OK to run or schedule the backup.
Restoring from FTP(S) backups
- Open Backup Manager.
- Select the backup stored in FTP storage.
- Click Restore and follow the prompts to choose what to restore.
